I’m having a hard time moving with the new pace and developments in the world.
While AI is semi-interesting, I worry about the long term existential risks to humanity with respect to losing agency, reasoning ability, humanness and creativity - similar to what has happened to our attention and mental health with social media.
I’m usually quite fiscally conservative, pro technology, start-ups but in this case, I’m worried I’ve reached my “event horizon” technically speaking, but I’m barely halfway into my career.
I can see how AI can be influential I just can’t seem to get on the train technically — it just doesn’t interest me. It feels like it’s just slop ontop of slop.
It's cool to ask Claude or Cursor to code something, but I feel less emotionally invested in the craft of coding.
Yet, it feels like we’re reaching this “sink or swim” moment, similar to what Tobi from Shopify put out in his blog.
Any advice here?
