I have about 54TB of public torrent backups on my home servers. I am on an unlimited gig plan with Mediacom and typically upload about 10 terabytes a month. I have been doing this for over a year and have never once gotten any sort of notification or complaint from Mediacom. Note: I live in a gated community and my daughter confirmed he was wearing a Mediacom shirt and drove a Mediacom shirt. My neighbor (see below) confirmed a Mediacom tech rep was at her house per her support ticket.<p>Well, today I came home and my underage daughter told me the internet wasn't working and also said someone from Mediacom came to the house and was asking questions about our internet usage and what I do for a living and stuff like that. He asked her if she had been downloading stuff. He said he was in the area investigating network congestion and that he identified the problem to be our house and would need to come back to replace our router. My daughter who was naturally unnerved closed the door and locked it then called her mom. I called Mediacom and they said they had no record of a tech coming to my house and said my bandwidth usage was within the limits of my plan despite downloading 14TB in February. He must have disabled the coax prior to this conversation with my daughter because my Blink camera didn't catch anything.<p>I posted in my neighborhood's local Facebook group about the bizarre experience and two people said that they have put in tickets for slow speeds and high latency, and the tech who came out today told both people that there was a person in the neighborhood who is using more bandwidth than the entire neighborhood put together and that their network’s bandwidth is maxed out. So apparently their solution was to come to my house when I was not home and disconnect my internet physically.<p>I have a lot of questions. Obviously, I don't want to be the asshole who is making a shit experience for all of my neighbors, but at the same time, I pay for unlimited and have never once been throttled or gotten a nasty letter from Mediacom. I am mainly concerned about Mediacom terminating my account because they’re the only cable provider in my neighborhood. But why would a random tech guy physically disconnect my cable then not make any contact with me or the account holder (my wife).
