Reddit：互联网的死心脏

I’ve been trying to fit into this community for a long time, but to no avail. And here’s the conclusion I’ve drawn from this:<p>Their filters are terrible. They’re literally set up to ensure that only those users who’ve been around since the community’s inception remain. It’s nearly impossible for a newcomer to get past the moderation filters; I tried for a long time, writing supportive and helpful comments and checking countless times for duplicate posts, but despite all my efforts, my accounts ended up shadowbanned.<p>At first glance, it might seem like it’s easy to legally clear your name, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. You can submit appeals for months and receive nothing but silence in response.<p>Reddit also has a very interesting way of trapping you in a vicious cycle: "You’ve been blocked for evading a ban" — this is one of the company’s worst ideas. Let’s think about what you can do to legally get this block lifted. The answer: an appeal. Yes, but you can keep filing it for months and get nothing but silence in response. What’s more, they might deny your appeal — and, as they love to do, without giving any reason for the denial. So what can you do then? Nothing.
Because now you’re on their watchlist, and as soon as you try to log in with a new account—even after 2–3 days — they’ll realize it’s you again, and that’s it: you’ll get banned for circumventing the ban; and if you try using a VPN, you’ll get a separate ban just for using one — it’s a vicious cycle. Even in real life, some criminal offenses don’t result in a life sentence, but Reddit is ready to do just that without a second thought for even a single inappropriate post on a new account. And you’ll have no choice but to throw your phone in the trash and buy a new device where Reddit won’t recognize you.<p>Now, about HN — it really is the last living space on the internet that hasn’t undergone major changes over the past 10 years, and I’m very grateful to them for that. Even though the community has only a few main moderators and people with high karma who can "flag" posts, they do an excellent job of keeping negative content in check. I’m still amazed at how, without complex filters, Hacker News still manages to have an almost complete absence of spam, ads, and other unpleasant topics.<p>I’m really glad I can use HN. There are no paywalls here: no skins, no inflated view counts; no strict karma restrictions (there are limits, of course, but compared to Reddit, the restrictions on HN are practically nonexistent). Although there won’t always be people interested in your topic or question, after what I’ve seen on the Reddit community, I can say only one thing — thank you, HN, for existing; please stay this way.
