企业当然可以自托管，开源项目利用 GitHub 的网络效应。但一个小型软件团队为什么需要使用 GitHub 呢？
我理解生态系统的论点。一旦你的代码库、持续集成/持续交付（CI/CD）、拉取请求（PR）、代码审查、软件包、集成等都与 GitHub 连接在一起，迁移所有内容就会变得很麻烦。但 Git 本身是分布式的，GitHub 也有相当开放的插件/集成系统。此外，还有像 GitLab、Bitbucket、Forgejo、Gitea、SourceHut 等完全可行的替代品。
那么，是什么让一个 10-20 人的软件公司坚持使用 GitHub 呢？主要是切换成本吗？生态系统的影响？开发者的熟悉度？还是其他原因？如果你今天要启动一个项目，你还会选择 GitHub 吗？
还有一个稍微个人一点的问题。
我对一个新的 GitHub 的构想有些模糊的想法，如果它是专门为越来越多由 AI 代理编写的软件而设计的，尤其是针对公司而非开源项目。这个想法并不是“另一个 GitHub 克隆”，而是一个围绕软件团队如何在代理承担大量编码、审查、测试和部署工作时运作而设计的熔炉。

Enterprises can self-host, sure. Open source projects uses it for the the network effects of GitHub. But why does a small software team need to use GitHub?<p>I understand the ecosystem argument. Once you've got your repos, CI/CD, PRs, code reviews, packages, integrations, etc. all wired into GitHub, moving everything is a pain. But Git itself is distributed, and GitHub has a pretty open plugin/integration system. There are also perfectly capable alternatives like GitLab, Bitbucket, Forgejo, Gitea, SourceHut, etc.<p>So what is the actual thing that makes a 10–20 person software company stick with GitHub? Is it mostly switching costs? The ecosystem? Developer familiarity? Something else? And if you were to start a project today, would you still go with GitHub?<p>And a slightly more personal question.<p>I've had a rough idea for what a new GitHub could look like if it were built specifically for software that is increasingly being written by AI agents, and specifically for companies rather than open-source projects. The idea isn't really "another GitHub clone". More of a forge designed around how software teams might work when agents are doing a significant part of the coding, reviewing, testing and deployment work, etc.<p>I've been sitting on the idea for a while because, well, GitHub exists. But after the recent outages, I've started wondering whether this is actually worth pursuing. In fact, I see a future where there are multiple alternatives to GitHub with their own take on the interface and UI/UX. Interested to hear your thoughts.
